Meet our Executive Chef: Derek Lowe!
Derek is an experienced old-school chef – we place his experience and talent fully at your disposal to ensure you have a great culinary evening at the Karoo Art Hotel, Barrydale! Derek’s illustrious career includes prestigious restaurants such as:
- The Kimberley Club (where he fed the directors of De Beers Diamonds for many years)
- Working as the personal Executive Chef to the Governor and First Lady of St Helena Island, Sir Andrew and Lady Gurr
- The Lord Charles Hotel
- Zorgvliet Wine Estate
- La Provence Wine Estate
We take our food seriously at the Karoo Art Hotel – we are members of the international culinary guild, Chaine des Rộtisseurs, and the SA Chefs’ Association.
With Derek’s help, our restaurant has won the coveted Klein Karoo Gourmand Award for two years consecutively – rating it to be amongst the top restaurants in the Klein Karoo!
The judges focus on quality, service, presentation and consistency, but aspects like the ambience, wine stewards, the menus and wash rooms are also taken into consideration.
