After an iconic visit by Bobby Kennedy to Stellenbosch University's Simonsberg residence in 1966 they started calling themselves 'Die Withuis'. The name has stuck. When Die Withuis alumni (76-80) visited us we followed suite with our own name change.

'All Together Now'. The NYE Mardi Gras Street Party. 2025
I wasĀ tempted to keep the copy to zero and just let Jonathan Rees and Graham Abbott's pictures do the talking but then in came the street party convenor and party queen Doris Day's report..
"As I reflect on 2024, I'm reminded of the challenges our community faced - division, separation, and struggle in parts. But I'm thrilled to share a story of hope and unity.
When the Karoo Art hotel owners Rick and Sue Melvill approached me to host the NYE street party, I saw it as an opportunity to bring our community together. I chose the theme "All Together Now," and it resonated deeply with our locals and visitors. By including local businesses such as the Dung Beetle, Makers Brew & Mud Modern, who provided the pre party fun vibes and great food on the R62 aswell as other influential individuals, and residents, we created an event that celebrated our shared humanity.
The party was a spectacular success, thanks to the talents of the Duke of Notes, and DJ Kali, the dancing Dakini. The Mardi Gras theme, courtesy of Renuan Bistro Blue, added an extra layer of excitement. As I looked around at the sea of eccentric, quirky and happy friends , I felt a deep sense of joy and shared connection.
As we step into the new year, I'm filled with hope and optimism. Let's continue to come together, celebrate our differences, and build a brighter future for ourselves and our community. Happy New Year!
This is Doris Day in Barrydale š
Well done Doris for a party of note !
Two of Barrydale's finest photographers were there on the night; Jonathon Reese (aka Herbert Dark) and our resident analog guru and inspiration behind the recently completed analog festival, Graham Abbott. Here's a taste of what they saw via 10 pics each.
